Realise2 4M Model

Winning through your strengths

With the Commonwealth Games in full swing, I thought it would be great to share with you ways in which we can all be part of a winning team by using our strengths. Referring to the strengths and Strengths Families from Capp’s online strengths identification tool, Realise2, what do you bring to situations that make a winning combination?

 

Competitive: Let us start with the most obvious. You love winning and this will usually be the only acceptable option for you as it probably hurts to lose! You are used to leading and being part of a winning team.  Competitive was one of the top weaknesses in the UK in our Realise2 study so consider how can you support others and role model your talent to encourage others’ competitiveness.

 

Motivation:  What are your motivation strengths and how will these deliver your competitive goals? If you have Work Ethic or Persistence, you can put the time, energy and effort into keeping going to make sure you achieve success. If you have Drive you will push yourself to win as you love achieving the demanding goals you have set yourself. Those with a sense of Adventure will compete successfully by pushing the boundaries and achieving the impossible.

 

Thinking: If you are naturally gifted in your brainpower, what thinking strengths can help you win? You may want to come up with the newest or most creative idea in your organisation. Perhaps your Judgement helps you make winning decisions or your organisational strengths of Planful or Order make sure you get to the top of your game with the right resources and in a timely manner.

 

Relationships:  If people are your focus you might not have thought too much about winning but your skill at getting the best from people will help deliver winning targets and goals through others. If you are emotionally connected with others use this talent to pick up on clues of others strengths and weaknesses to channel their energy in the right direction. If you are the natural Connector, use your network to put the winning team or resources together.

 

Being: Some of the Being strengths are all about ‘Making a Difference’ for example, Mission, Legacy, Service and Moral Compass. By aligning your passions and values together with your goals, it won’t be long before your commitment to the task sees you outperforming others and driving teams forward positively.

 

Communication:  The key to getting others on board to deliver performance. With Narrator as a strength, your talent for storytelling and anecdotes is a powerful and convincing message to others as to why they should outperform. Perhaps you offer the Counterpoint, always looking for alternatives so you can achieve success another way if you come across challenges. The ability to use your Explainer and Scribe to avoid jargon and make sure the whole team understands their individual and team goals will be a powerful combination.

 

So, the next time you are working towards a winning goal, compete in a way that plays to your strengths and you are far more likely to maintain your engagement and get to the result you want.

Four Quadrants, Four Ways with Realise2

Dear Readers of The Capp Blog,

 

Throughout April, we will be running a series of blogs about Realise2, our strengths identification and development tool that has now been taken by over 60,000 people around the world. Giving us a great jump start to this series, Trudy Bailey starts us off with “Four Quadrants, Four Ways with Realise2“.

So, you have your Realise2 profile. It looks pretty and the strengths icons are cool, but now what?

 

Here is a tip for each of the four quadrants to help you identify some actions, based on the 4Ms of Capp’s Realise2 Model:

 

1. Marshal your realised strengths – We want to use our realised strengths in a way that keeps the energy alive, rather than consistently using them until we burn out or annoy others! Do you have any that you could dial up to achieve a task, or dial down? You may have other strengths you can use instead of your natural default realised strengths. What would others like to see you use more? Ask for some honest feedback from someone who knows you well!

 

2. Moderate your learned behaviours – So, you perform well here but the energy is lacking. Which of these learned behaviours drains you the most? Can you delegate it to someone else or rely on it less? What about sandwiching it in between something more enjoyable? I sandwich my work using my learned behaviour of Detail between a couple of realised strengths or I know I will drink too much coffee!

 

3. Minimise your weaknesses – Yep, the dreaded W word; we all have them, so time to face them so we can focus on our strengths instead. How might you use a strength to compensate for your weakness. For example, I use my Judgement strength to support my weakness of Adherence (so I know which rules are ok to break!) Alternatively, try swapping tasks with someone else or tweaking your role slightly.

 

4. Maximise your unrealised strengths – This is the best bit. Often described as a pot of gold at the end of a rainbow or a present! You have energy here which is not getting a chance to be set free.  Which of your unrealised strengths can you most proftiably maximise? Do you have any goals or tasks you can specifically align them to? You may need to work on these gradually as you gain experience and build your confidence.

 

Use the the Realise2 4M Model to work through your profile and take some actions around each quadrant. That’s one of the best ways to deliver performance through strengths.

Practical Strengths-based Performance Management as a Driver of Growth

Realise2 – Capp’s Leading Edge Strengths Assessment and Development Tool

As many readers of The Capp Blog will know, Realise2 is Capp’s leading edge strengths assessment and development tool. It works by assessing 60 different strengths according to the three dimensions of performance, energy and use.

 

The results are then combined to determine where each attribute falls, into one of the four quadrants of the Realise2 4M Model, which are:

 

Realised strengths – high energy, high performance, high use

 

Unrealised strengths – high energy, high performance, lower use

 

Learned behaviours – lower energy, high performance, variable use

 

Weaknesses – lower energy, lower performance, variable use.

 

The 4 “Ms” of the Realise2 4M Model describe the advice that applies for optimal performance and development in each of these quadrants:

 

Marshal realised strengths – use them appropriately for your situation and context

 

Maximise unrealised strengths – find opportunities to use them more

 

Moderate learned behaviours – use them in moderation and only when you need to

 

Minimise weaknesses – use them as little as possible and only where necessary.
